Clare Garnsey graduated from the University of Edinburgh and completed post-graduate training in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester. She completed an oncoplastic fellowship at The Royal Marsden, London, before gaining a consultant position at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust. Clare is Associate Medical Director and Clinical Lead for breast cancer at the Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance and teaches as part of the breast faculty at the University of Manchester.
Clare’s work at the cancer alliance has focused on improving equity of access to high quality care within the NHS cancer system and she has led multiple regional projects to improve and standardise patient pathways in cancer prevention, genomic testing, earlier and faster diagnosis of cancer and cancer treatment. She is interested in primary and secondary cancer care collaboration including the development of extended roles for General Practitioners within the cancer system. As Associate Medical Director of the Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance she is working to ensure metastatic patients are more visible in the NHS system, improve urgent and elective metastatic care, as well as supporting the development of future cancer clinical leaders.
Claire Goldrick
Pathway Manager for Breast, Neuro-oncology and Research, Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance:
Claire has been working at Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance for over six years as a pathway manager, facilitating multiple pathway boards to deliver system wide improvements to cancer pathways and patient care, including Breast, Head and Neck, Genomics, Neuro-oncology and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary cancer. The pathway boards offer an clinically led, collaborative approach to service improvement and bring together stakeholders from across Greater Manchester to create an engaged, multidisciplinary board which is representative of the whole patient pathway.
Prior to working at the alliance, Claire worked at Cancer Research UK as their Northwest Clinical Research Associate, covering a range of early phase clinical trials. Claire has also held roles at The Christie Clinical Trials Unit and Macmillan building a wealth of experience in clinical cancer research and service improvement.
Claire has also qualified as a coach and mentor with the Chartered Management Institute and is currently part of the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson NHS Senior Leadership Programme.
