An Irlam lady is urging people in Salford to take up their free NHS lung health checks after her check-up saved her life. The NHS in Salford is offering free Lung Health Checks to past and current smokers aged 55 to 74 who are registered with a GP in the Eccles and Irlam areas. The finalists have been announced for the 2024 Greater Manchester Cancer Awards organised by Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance. The awards honour outstanding work to improve lives and treatment for people affected by cancer in Greater Manchester.   70 entries were received for this year’s Greater Manchester Cancer Awards across six categories. Entries came from teams in the NHS, research, voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE), and public health /local authority sectors. A FORMER headteacher from Greater Manchester who is living with ovarian cancer wants more women to know the signs and symptoms of the cancer. Gill Broom, 62, originally from Bramhall, Stockport, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in November 2020. Gill, who now lives in Clitheroe, is a volunteer with the Dianne Oxberry Trust - a charity focused on raising awareness of ovarian cancer symptoms to people across the North West.
