Manchester bus driver who had breast cancer at 49 says check your breasts

A MUM-OF-TWO from Manchester is urging everyone to check their breasts after she was successfully treated for breast cancer. Bus driver Joyce Singh, 51, from Stalybridge, found a lump under her left arm after taking a shower in February last year. She went to her GP the next day and was referred to Tameside Hospital. Joyce had a mammogram (an X-ray to check breasts for signs of cancer) and a biopsy (which involves taking a small sample of breast tissue so it can be examined under a microscope). ‘Don’t ignore your invite’: NHS urges women to come forward for cervical screening test

Women and people with a cervix (neck of the womb) are being encouraged to attend their cervical screening appointments when invited by the NHS. Cervical screening (also  known as a  smear test) checks the health of the cervix and looks for  a certain high risk types of human papillomavirus (HPV) which can cause cervical cancer. If that type of high risk HPV is found, it can be treated before it turns into cancer. The test is very important for preventing cancer and is offered to women and people with a cervix aged between 25 and 64. [...]

Alliance partners with iPLATO to promote Lung Health Checks

Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance has today announced a new partnership with iPLATO, a Huma Company, which aims to help re-engage patients across Wigan and Salford in the Targeted Lung Health Check programme, focusing on early detection and awareness of lung cancer. The Targeted Lung Health Check programme aims to reduce the lung cancer mortality rates by ensuring early diagnosis and treatment. Using iPLATO’s Population Health service, the programme will look to improve uptake amongst the eligible population.
