The mobile clinic in a van offering heartburn health checks with two doors and the words heartburn health check on the side

The NHS Heartburn Health Check pilot in Greater Manchester has now finished.

If you attended the clinic and are waiting for your results, please allow 5 weeks. If you have not been contacted after 5 weeks, please contact: 0161 327 4528.

The NHS in Greater Manchester offered Heartburn Health Checks by appointment only to people at higher risk of developing oesophageal cancer. A Heartburn Health Check van travelled to all 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester, in March, April and May 2025. It offered ‘pill on a string’ tests to people aged 55 to 65 with a history of chronic acid reflux were are identified and sent an invite by their GP.

This service was by invitation only.

The project was part of the work done by Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance to investigate ways to to find cancer earlier when it is much more treatable.

The pilot is now being evaluated and we will publicise the results once they are ready.
