Understanding Hospice Services: More Than Just End-of-Life Care

Many people think hospices are only for those who are very near the end of life — but that’s only part of what hospices do.. Hospices offer a wide range of health and wellbeing support to help people live well with serious illnesses, often while they are still feeling well and active.

Hospice outpatient services are designed to support your physical, emotional, and social wellbeing. This means you can visit the hospice for:

• Specialist medical advice and symptom management to help you stay comfortable and control pain or other symptoms.
• Therapies such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, or complementary treatments like massage and relaxation to improve your quality of life.
• Counselling and emotional support for you and your family, helping you cope with the challenges of your illness.
• Wellbeing activities like gentle exercise classes, creative workshops, and social groups to keep you connected and engaged.
• Practical advice on managing your condition and planning your care so you feel more in control.

You don’t have to be very unwell or close to the end of life to use hospice services — they are here to help you live as well as possible, for as long as possible.
