The latest National Cancer Patient Experience Survey results highlight the positive experiences of people receiving cancer care across Greater Manchester.
In Greater Manchester, 1,906 patients responded to the survey, resulting in a response rate of 44%.

Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance recorded no scores below the expected range, with 10 areas performing above expectations nationally.

Patients also gave their overall care an average rating of 9 out of 10, higher than the national average of 8.9.

The survey found particular strengths in key areas of the cancer pathway:

  • Patients reported positive experiences around receiving their diagnosis, including being given the opportunity to have a family member or friend with them and being told their diagnosis sensitively and in an appropriate setting.
  • Patients also reported high levels of confidence and trust in the teams caring for them, with 91% saying they were always treated with respect and dignity while in hospital.

The results also demonstrate the strength of collaboration across Greater Manchester’s cancer services. Nine in ten patients said their care team worked well together, while many highlighted the support they received from healthcare professionals throughout their treatment and care. Feedback from patients continues to play a vital role in helping services understand what is working well and where further improvements can be made.

While there is much to celebrate, the survey also identifies opportunities to further improve support for people living with and beyond cancer, particularly around emotional support, information about long-term side effects and support available through community and primary care services. Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance will use the findings to continue improving cancer services and outcomes for patients across the region.

The Alliance would like to thank everyone who took part in the survey and all the staff across Greater Manchester who work every day to deliver high-quality, compassionate cancer care.
