Our Annual Reports 2019

Each year, Greater Manchester Cancer publishes its annual report to review progress made to cancer services over the previous 12 months. In addition, in 2019 the team has also published a new sister report: ‘Research & Innovation’ – to highlight some of the fantastic work taking place in this sector within Greater Manchester.

Our Cancer Plan

Our Greater Manchester Cancer Plan sets out how we plan to tackle cancer in the region between 2017 and 2021.

Cancer survival rates in Manchester are improving. A cancer patient diagnosed here today has the same chance of surviving as the average for England as a whole. However, there remains a lot of work to do to give the people of Greater Manchester cancer services that match the best in the world. This is the first time that health and social care organisations have come together across a whole region to develop an action plan to tackle cancer.
The plan has been developed through consultation and engagement with the whole Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership, including people affected by cancer. This morning the plan was ratified at the partnership’s highest level – the Strategic Partnership Board.

Our Response to the NHS Long Term Plan

In January 2019, the NHS published its Long Term Plan – a ten year forward-plan detailing its strategy across the healthcare system, including cancer services and survival.

Greater Manchester Cancer has considered the plan in full and in turn produced a detailed response for its cancer targets and recommendations. Our Long Term Plan response is able to view and download below.
