Lung Cancer Screening is currently being rolled out to people aged 55 to 74 who are current or former smokers across Greater Manchester over the coming months and years.
People will be offered free NHS Lung Health Checks when the NHS mobile unit comes to their area. Eligible patients (smokers and former smokers aged 55-74) will be sent an invite in the post. The checks will be rolled out to even more areas in the coming months and years to ensure that all eligible participants across Greater Manchester are invited.
People can find out if the checks have arrived at their GP surgery by visiting https://www.mft.nhs.uk/lunghealthcheck.
We currently need help to promote these Lung Health Checks:
- Bolton (Rumworth Primary Care Network GP surgeries: Pikes Lane, BL3 5HP, Swan Lane Medical Centre, BL3 6TL, St Helens Road Practice, BL3 3RR, Shanti Medical Centre, BL3 3PH) – Starts 15 May with mobile clinic at Sainsburys Bolton, Trinity Street, Bolton BL3 6DH.
- Manchester: West Central Manchester (West Centrtal Manchester Primary Care Network GP surgeries: Ashville Surgery – M16 9RT, The Range Medical Centre – M16 8EE, Princess Road Surgery – M20 1BH, Chorlton Family Practice – M21 9NJ, Wilbraham Surgery – M21 0UF, The Alexandra Practice – M16 8NG) – Starts from 15-May 2025. The mobile clinic will be based at Asda Hulme, 100 Princess Road, Hulme, Manchester, M15 5AS.

The NHS is offering free lung health checks to more current and former cigarette and shisha smokers aged 55-74 who are registered with a GP in parts of #Manchester.
The checks are quick, free and they could ultimately save your life by finding lung cancer at an early stage before you may have symptoms. Most visitors to the Lung Health Checks will get reassurance that everything is OK.
People who are invited for a lung health check will firstly talk to specialist nurse where they will answer some health and lifestyle questions which will determine whether they are ‘high’ or ‘low’ risk. If you are deemed high risk, you will then be offered a low-dose computed tomography (CT) scan of your lungs for further investigation on the same day on board the truck and be enrolled into the programme.
The free checks are available to people aged 55-74 who are past and current smokers registered at the following practices:
