Cervical Screening Awareness Week takes place from 19 to 20 June 2025 and is an opportunity to encourage women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64 to come forward for their cervical screening as well as to share information and resources to help people make informed decisions about screening and tackle some of the barriers stopping people from being screened.
This toolkit has been created by NHS England North West to help NHS, local authority and partner organisations communicate key messages during Cervical Screening Awareness Week and covers:
– NHS England’s ambition to eliminate cervical cancer by 2040
– Extended Screening Intervals for cervical screening
– Screening invites being sent via the NHS App
– Screening for the LGBT+ community during Pride Month (June)
Aims
- Urge eligible women and people with a cervix to come forward for cervical screening when invited by the NHS.
- Inform people about the extended cervical screening intervals from three to five years for those at low risk and reassure people that this is a positive and safe change.
- Inform people about the publication of the Cervical Cancer Elimination Plan and NHS England’s ambition to eliminate cervical cancer by 2040.
- Share information about screening for the LGBT+ community and how trans and non-binary people can opt in to screening, as June is Pride Month.

This change is based on strong evidence showing that people without HPV are at very low risk of cervical cancer. If you missed your last one, book an appointment with your GP. #GMCervicalScreening |
