We continue to promote our LungAware tool over lung cancer awareness month and the winter period. What does the tool do? LungAware is a simple “decision tree” style tool. Users answer several straightforward questions, which ask about their age, smoking status, lung symptoms and the area of Greater Manchester in which they live. Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance teamed up with OUTPatients, the UK’s LGBTIQ+ Cancer Charity, to develop a new communication campaign to raise awareness about NHS Lung Cancer Screening during summer 2026 to tie with various Pride events. Research shows LGBTIQ+ people are more likely to smoke, and therefore need lung cancer screening. However, the community are also more likely to avoid seeking medical attention, even when unwell. OUTPatients led focus groups with community members from across Greater Manchester to help inform the campaign.
