
Lung Cancer Screening is currently being rolled out to people aged 55 to 74 who are current or former smokers across Greater Manchester over the coming months and years. Help us promote the service:
- Download photos and videos to help us promote the service
- Share our YouTube explainer videos available in English and Urdu or our video about shisha smoking
- Download and put up posters and leaflets to promote the service (available in English, Urdu, Arabic, Farsi, Romanian, Polish, Bengali, Punjabi, Cantonese and Mandarin) email gmcancer.comms@nhs.net.
Eligible people (smokers and former smokers aged 55-74) will be sent an invite by post and text message for a free NHS lung health check when the NHS mobile unit comes to their area. The checks will be rolled out to even more areas in the coming months and years to ensure that all eligible participants across Greater Manchester are invited. The NHS is offering free lung health checks to smokers and ex-smokers aged 55-74 who are registered with a GP in #Wigan.
The free checks are available to people aged 55-74 who are past and current smokers registered with a GP based at the following practices (part of Wigan North Primary Care Network):
Beech Hill Medical Practice WN6 7PD
Standish Medical Practice WN6 0HD
Aspull Surgery WN2 1XH
Shevington Surgery WN6 8ET

The checks are quick, free and they could ultimately save your life by finding lung cancer at an early stage before you may have symptoms.
Most visitors to the lung health checks will get reassurance that everything is OK.
People who are invited for a lung health check will firstly talk to specialist nurse where you will answer some health and lifestyle questions which will determine whether you are ‘high’ or ‘low’ risk. If you are deemed high risk, you will then be offered a low-dose computed tomography (CT) scan of your lungs for further investigation on the same day on board the truck and be enrolled into the programme.
