Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the largest charities in the country and provides specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer.
As well as helping with the medical needs of people affected by cancer, Macmillan also looks at the social, emotional and practical impact cancer can have, and campaigns for better cancer care. Macmillan Cancer Support’s goal is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer in the UK.
Greater Manchester Cancer has developed a very close working relationship with the Greater Manchester Macmillan team.
Macmillan was integral to the appointment of Pathway Clinical Directors, arranging and facilitating the stakeholder interviews and providing a clear patient voice to the formal interview process. Macmillan has also very generously supported our work to ensure that living with and beyond cancer is being given the priority it deserves.
The other key area of partnership with Macmillan has been user involvement. Thanks to Macmillan we were able to hold a user involvement event in June 2014 and use this as a springboard for a new approach to the involvement of people affected by cancer.
