University College London and the University of Manchester are conducting a study into the centralisation of specialist cancer surgery services across North Central/North East London/West Essex and Greater Manchester.

Specialist cancer surgical services in London are undergoing significant changes, and similar changes are planned for Greater Manchester. Some aspects of specialist cancer surgery have been combined into single, larger specialist units in London, and similar changes are planned in Manchester. This involves surgery services only − other aspects of care will remain closer to each patient’s home in those areas.

The protocol for the study, known as RESPECT-21, has been published today in Implementation Science.
